First Round of the Year!!!

Over vacation I played my first golf round of the year. My father and I played at the golf course across from our house in Cape Cod. It was pretty good conditions considering courses have been open for little over a few weeks. I have a history of playing poorly on the front nine and have a strong finish at that course. This round was no exception.

I shot a front nine 46, and my father beat me by a few strokes. Not too bad for the first nine of the year. But the first hole of the back nine I was already getting back in the groove. I hit my tee shot on the par 5 10th about 305yds to leave me with approx. 160yds to the hole. There is a sand trap in front of the green and the front edge is a little bit elevated, I didn't know it but the pin was in the back, so you need to hit a club that comes down soft but can get there. I chose a nine iron and initially was worried if it would make it over the trap, but I felt confident with that club and gave it a good swing. It ended up being on the back of the green about 15-20ft from the hole. I sank the putt for eagle and walked off the 10th starting the back at two under.

I believe this was the best golf I've played on a single hole ever. All of the shots were pure and struck in the middle of the club. And the fact that it was the first round of the year excites me for whats to come.

This is what it felt like when I made my eagle putt.

I finished strong with a 40 on the back to give me a 86 total, I beat my dad, and later found out I had a very high fever later that night, which only made it feel that much better.

Golf Guide For Noobs

IF YOU ARE BAD AT GOLF READ THIS!!!!

If you're new to golf or are just plain bad here are some tips to get super low rounds.

Keep your head down- One of the most common mistakes in golf is to try and watch your shot, as your hitting the ball. If you focus on the ball and keep you head down through impact you are less likely to top it or miss completely. "Staying down on the ball" also improves your ball striking, leading to better hit irons and more fairways and greens hit in regulation.
Visualize your shot- The game of golf is very tough mentally. You will not be able to just walk up and hit your shot by swinging. You have to imagine yourself making a clean stroke before you even hit the ball. This sets you up for success. You also need to think of things that can affect your shot, things like wind, water, hazards, distance, softness of green, etc.
Stay confident- You must trust yourself enough to make the shots that matter or the putts that count. This is one of the most important things in the game of golf, if a golfer doesn't have confidence in their swing then they are pretty much hopeless.
Stay positive- Golf is a very tricky game, and you will not always perform the way you want to. But it takes positive thinking to get better. If you are thinking negativly you are already set up for failure. Think about the positives of each shot, rather than dwell on the negatives, at least you didn't hit it in the water, right?
Be respectful- Golf is generally a prestigous game. Clubs usually have dress codes and have a low tolerance to horse play. Follow the rules and don't do anything stupid.

Masters Winner!

The winner of the 2011 Masters golf tournament is Charl Schwartzel! He finished sunday with a low round 66 to put him to 14 under, two strokes ahead of second place. He is from Johannesburg, South Africa. He is 26 and just go this Tour card at the begining of 2011. He married Rosalind Jacobs in the fall of 2008.

The 2011 Masters was a very memorable event, even compared to past tournaments. It is known for being the most important and most prestigous major of the year, it is the only one that is played at the same course every year, Augusta National. It was also a unique event because for 63 holes Rory Mcilroy lead the pack. He eventually fell apart, but he was the second youngest to do so, at 21 years old, only a hundred days behind Tiger Woods' famed 1997 Masters win. There were also a number of different leaders throughout sunday afternoon, more than there usually are in the whole tournament.

All in all it was a tournament to remember, even though Phil Mickelson didn't do so well. I was pleased with the outcome and am looking forward to next years Masters'.

Hello and welcome to the first post of Kyle's Golf Blog!!!! I will be posting new and interesting things about the game of golf, both my game and the tour game. I will also try and keep you, fellow bloggers, updated on the 2011 masters! I have been playing golf for quite some time now and I am pretty skilled.
